A Multi artist exhibition featuring: Pablo and Roxana Allison, Robert Czibi, Edward Rogers and Jan Yavuz

Exhibition: Roots

Mexicans/UK is the most recent photographic collaboration between Mexican-British brother and sister Pablo and Roxana Allison. The portraits (32 in total, one person per state) in combination with the views of those portrayed, aim to offer the spectator an insight into Mexico’s diversity and current state of affairs from an inside/outside perspective.

The project aims to give exposure and recognition to the Mexicans residing in this country who contribute both economically and culturally to the shaping of British society, whilst trying to dissolve stereotypes commonly attached to Mexican culture.

About the photographers

Photographers Pablo and Roxana Allison were born in Manchester and grew up in Mexico City. Later on they returned to England where they currently live. Their photographic practice focuses on themes of cultural displacement, belonging, memory and identity.

Pablo graduated with a BA (Hons) in Documentary Photography from Newport College of Art and Design, University of Wales whilst Roxana holds a 10BA in Fine Art from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Their work has been exhibited in Mexico and the UK.

Robert Czibi was born in Hungary. He has lived in London since 2010 and contributed to the capital’s art scene from the outset. He started painting in the early 90s, while studying and working at the Open Studio Art Foundation of Városliget in Budapest. In the following years he participated in various art project and workshops in Hungary. In 2004 he travelled to Greece and worked briefly in Athens and Crete before returning to Central Europe for his first solo exhibition at the Goethe Institute in Budapest. As a Romani painter he comes with a 'different approach': his background to some extent influences his take on life, culture, which, he hopes, is reflected in his work.

Recent activities:

26 May 2016: Exhibition Vagabond of Bloomsbury part of UCL's Festival of Culture.

23-24 April 2016. New York City at NYU. At the Romani/Gypsy Music and Culture Conference.

26 Oct-6 Dec 2015. Solo Exhibition at Sable d'Or Patisserie, London, Muswell Hill.

Edward Rogers is a hobbyist artist, creative designer, level 26 beard tamer and graphic art worker. He’s been inspired and influenced by comic books, video games and other visual mediums over the year. He hopes that his material will inspire others to write and create so they can learn to bring their own ideas to life and tell and share their own stories with pride.

On this project Edward will be working with Jan Yavuz to create the future-self avatars (of the participants).
