Our dementia-friendly theatre programme
Park Theatre aims to be a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone.
According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are circa 850,000 people with dementia in the UK - a figure set to rise to over 1 million by the year 2025. In Islington around 4% of adults aged 65+ have a diagnosis. Park Theatre is proud to run the following initiatives to support people whose lives are affected by dementia.
The Reminiscence Project is a free theatre-based course for people who are living with dementia and their carers. The weekly workshops allow participants to explore their imagination via multi-sensory theatrical techniques. The sessions enhance the well-being, communication and playfulness of the participants. Creativity and collaboration also help to strengthen relationships between people diagnosed with dementia and those caring for them.
With lunch offered after every workshop and support from a team of volunteer, the workshops are also crucial opportunity to have fun and unwind in a relaxed and sociable environment.
These relaxed performances are carefully tailored to the needs of people with dementia and their carers so that they are still able to enjoy the work on stage in an environment that feels comfortable for them. Tickets to the performances are discounted to ensure affordability.
