WORKING ON A NEW MUSICAL

It’s the end of day one of a three day workshop of a new musical comedy. Award winning composer and lyricist Leon Parris – whose recent ‘Wolfboy’ played at the Trafalgar Studios – has come over from his home in Spain to work on the script. It’s always exciting for me to work with new writing, something I have done a lot over the years. Combining this with my love of music makes for a truly exciting process.

After Leon’s hour long pitch of the new draft to Melli and me we sat down for a meal and discussed some notes over a glass of wine (Melli), beer (Leon) and a moscow mule (me)! A couple of hours later and I think we’ve solved most of the structural issues with the piece. Looking forward to working on the storyboard tomorrow (Leon has brought a shoebox full of accomplished sketches) and to start fleshing out the script….
