THE MORNING AFTER

by Jez Bond

I woke up this morning with a great feeling. Yesterday we overcame what I hope will be the final hurdle in terms of council approval (planning/licensing). Over the past 24 hours messages of congratulations have been pouring in. Local residents are thrilled that they’ll have a facility that will open later in the evening, providing a bright street frontage and illuminating the passage from Wells Terrace exit of the station along Clifton Terrace.

Earlier yesterday we had toured round the new Platform at the old Hornsey Road Baths. What a fantastic facility for young people! When asked if we’d finished our design stage, Ben Jones (Hjf architects) replied “I don’t think we’ll ever quite finish – it’s a constant process.” How true that is – and how important, as the architects agree, for a theatre. Once the steel is in place and the walls are up we’ll re-look at exactly how a certain wall is treated, the exact configuration of the control box etc… That’s when the real fun starts to take place.
