INTERNSHIP AT PARK THEATRE
by Chelsea Collins
If you’re thinking about applying for an internship with Park Theatre, I highly recommend it. My experience with the Park Theatre family is one I wouldn’t trade for anything. It was my first time in London, hailing from New York, and I was nervous. The Park Theatre family was welcoming and made adjusting that much easier for me. I had a lot of fun working with the lovely people that make up the Park Theatre team and thoroughly enjoyed my time being a part of it.
The Park Theatre team is small; you will have a lot of responsibilities as the intern. There will be tasks to take care of on a regular basis, but one should be prepared to handle extra tasks as well. If you have a great interest in learning all the facets that go into running a theatre, this is the place to be. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started and wasn’t sure what I wanted out of this internship, in the end I learned more than I could have asked for. In this internship I was responsible for a wide variety of tasks anywhere from marketing and promotion to front of house work to handling the box office, taking calls, and dealing with community relations. I worked fairly closely with the Creative Director and helped with a lot of special projects she had going on, which was great to be a part of all the different activities the theatre had happening. I had the opportunity to meet with and give tours to prospective directors and producers, which was a lot of fun for me to get to chat with the different people that come through the theatre. I was able to see previews of other London productions. I also had to read plays and review them for potential production. I was asked often to go out of my usual comfort zones, which helped me to grow and experience new things that I might not have otherwise had the chance to. One has to be ready for anything in this internship, being well organized and having an open mind to experiencing and learning new things is a must.
This internship has helped guide my future career choices and I am grateful for the knowledge I have gained from it. This truly was a wonderful experience for me and I am glad to have had the opportunity to work at Park Theatre.
