The Constant Wife

Somerset Maugham

A biting witty play by Somerset Maugham and first performed in 1927 just two years before the Great Financial Crash. NLA has been doing a series of plays looking at the position of women in theatre in the last 100 years, including Hindle Wakes, Hobson’s Choice and A Doll’s House.

Underneath the elegant dialogue in The Constant Wife, is an outspoken and hard edged attitude that would not look out of place in 2017.
