Roots is an art exhibition running alongside our current shows, Madame Rubinstein and Voices of the Movement, which tell stories about the lives of migrants and refugees.

The works in Roots is comprised of photographs from MEXICANS UK by Pablo and Roxana Allison, avatars created by Edward Rogers and Jan Yavuz featuring the company in Voices of the Movemenr (who are themselves all migrants and refugees), as well as paintings by Robert Czibi. The artists all come to the refugee/migrant discussion by way of background and inspiration.

Photographers brother and sister Pablo and Roxana Allison were born in Manchester and grew up in Mexico City. Their photographic practice focuses on themes of cultural displacement, belonging, memory and identity.

Edward Rogers is a hobbyist artist, creative designer, graphic art worker and is inspired by comic books as well as other visual mediums.

Jan Yavuz, born in Turkey and a refugee to the UK at a young age, Jan has a strong interest in social justice and illustration.

Robert Czibi was born in Tiszafured, Hungary and has lived in London since 2010 contributing to the capital’s art scene from the outset as a Roma painter. Robert feels that his background does influence his take on life, culture and is reflected in his work.
