10 Years of Park Theatre

Take a bow, you’ve played a part!

This May, Park Theatre turns 10 years old. The proverbial curtain lifted on These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich on 8 May 2013 – and since then we have seen a further 220 productions grace our stages. We’ve also established a thriving Community Engagement Programme that offers activities for all ages, while our Artistic team has worked closely with a multitude of early-career creatives to nurture the next generation of theatre-makers. We have been a café, a restaurant and most recently a pizzeria as well as food bank depository and a hang out for one or two famous faces…

Our goal was always to be a creative, community hub, producing high quality productions whilst being accessible and affordable. Hence, once we firmed up our position on the London theatre scene, we set about producing more of our own work in order to set the tone and develop our audience. By our fifth anniversary, we were producing or co-producing two main house shows a year.

As a busy local theatre, there was barely a dark day, closing only for Christmas each year. Then came the pandemic. Covid saw us go dark for just under 18 months. Work with the community continued throughout, spurring us on, not only to survive but to come back and better serve our neighbourhood.

Since re-opening we have doubled our efforts to tell important stories on our stages. As such, in the last year we have produced or co-produced six main house shows, tackling issues from the Windrush scandal to Pogroms. We have also provided big belly laughs through Whodunnit [Unrehearsed] 2 and Tony! [The Tony Blair Rock Opera]. We are fiercely proud of our varied and compelling programming, not only in Park200 but in Park90 which has seen festival and double bill line-ups in the past 12 months.

As we look back on ten years of drama (on and off stage!), there are a number of constants to whom we owe huge thanks.

If you’ve bought a ticket, or several over the years, you have helped us keep the lights on and open the doors each day. We hope you will keep coming back. If you’ve topped up that ticket purchase by making a donation, playing your part or taking the lead then we are even more indebted to you.

If you’ve made a donation, particularly during the pandemic, then you’ve ensured our continued presence in Finsbury Park so we can keep developing our creative community.

If you’ve volunteered or are currently a volunteer with us, you’re our foundation; we could not function without you.

Thank you all. Here’s to ten years of Park Theatre. May there be many, many more.
