Virtual Retreat: Radio Drama

14 January 2021 - 11 February 2021

What Is It?

This is a weekly Zoom course for those aged 18+ of all abilities and experience who wish to learn about acting for radio drama, running for 5 weeks.

Course Content

Week 1: This session will focus on getting to know voice type including its quality and character. We will explore a range of vocal warm-ups and then begin to read aloud from Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas. There will be opportunities to listen to others and have others listen to you to give feedback.

Week 2: This week we will look at storytelling with your voice whilst looking at how an absence of visual cues makes a difference. You will then be set a task of creating you own DIY home-studio!

Week 3: This session will explore characterisation and multi-rolling. We will explore how you can create distinct character differences whilst continuing to drive a narrative. We will also look at how to look after your voice, plus playing with pitch, accents and vocal quality.

Week 4: This session will be about rehearsing a script. Bringing together all the skills we have been learning, we will do a vocal warm-up by Kristin Linklater, a sound check and then rehearse the piece with notes and direction.

Week 5: In this final session we will record the radio play Under Milk Wood that we rehearsed the previous week. This recording will be for us to listen to and enjoy!
