VAT DOESN\'T HAVE TO BE BORING!

by Jez Bond

What a great night! It was the annual fundraiser for the Charity Finance Directors’ Group and I was kindly invited by SOC VAT, our VAT consultants.

Socrates, who runs the company, is that rare thing – a true expert and someone who can translate complex matters into layman’s terms. If ever anyone needs VAT advice – he specialises in Charities and has some great theatres on his books – then he is your man. Check them out: www.socvat.com

Tom, his colleague, who runs a firm that provides business advice – and again has an impressive client list – would seem to be your man for all other financial matters, including advice on Gift Aid. You can see what he does here: www.counterculturepartners.co.uk

The evening began at 6.30pm at the Lancaster London, a swanky hotel beside Lancaster Gate station. The dinner was delightful, with lovely guests at our table. At about 1pm a few of us moved to the Groucho club where we sat by the piano, beside a very strange and inappropriate woman, and chatted the night away while joining in for the odd song. Finally, for me at least, the night ended when we left Jerry’s, our next port of call, in the wee small hours. I arrived home just in time to get into bed before the clock struck five.

I haven’t done that for a while!
